WCB public hearings

The Federation has been fighting for changes to the Working Alone Regulation for over a year and we are hopeful this campaign will secure greater protections for late night retail workers working alone.

Now the WCB is proposing new regulations that will require customers pre-pay for all gas purchases at all times. As well the proposed regulations also introduce language that would require employers who are open late at night to either have two people on shift or provide workers with a barrier to protect them from the potential of violence from customers.

How can you help?

Email the WCB and tell them you support tougher laws to protect late night retail workers.

Participate in public hearings the WCB is holdings around the province

The public hearings will provide individuals with an opportunity to give feedback on the proposed regulatory amendments. The hearings are open to anybody who has comments on the regulations and are a means to lobby WCB to ensure that all perspectives are heard.

The Federation is happy to assist anyone who would like to make presentations at the hearings. There will be briefing session in each community where hearings are taking place, prior to the hearings so participants know the key concerns for workers are as well as skills building on how to make presentations at public hearings.
