Emergency Resolution: Farm Workers

March 21, 2007

WHEREAS the agricultural employers are one of the largest groups to be found in violation of the Employment Standards Act; and

WHEREAS farm workers have long fought for the protection of their rights at the workplace; and

WHEREAS the BC Liberals have introduced changes to the Employment Standards Regulations that strip farm workers of their basic rights to overtime pay, minimum wage and statutory holiday pay; and

WHEREAS these changes are in violation of the International Labour Organization standards; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the BC NDP demand that the provincial government immediate repeal their Regulation changes to the Employment Standards Act.
